    Default Salve, I'm new

I decided for my new year's resolution that I wanted to be manlier. This included, among other things, making changes to my shaving habits. I don't have a lot of facial hair (I'm college age and come from a long line of men who have patchy facial hair), but the over-the-counter stuff still gives me razorburn and doesn't really smell that good. Not to mention, shaving with a straight razor is badass and using nicer products in everyday grooming makes you feel better about waking up. Anyways, I was pointed here by the Art of Manliness website and decided to join so that I could ask the few questions that I have not yet seen answered.

Hello, and welcome to SRP! I'm a college student myself, and look forward to seeing you around the forum- and hearing more about you!

I recommend starting by reading through the FAQ and beginner's sections in the SRP Knowledge Base here. Beyond that, there are vast number of useful threads both old and current that are full of great information. And, of course, if you can't find the answer to your question or want something clarified just post the question and the guys here will be happy to answer it.

    Enjoy the journey!

    Hi GaiusValeriusPulcher,
    Welcome to SRP!-great resolution!!
    Some pointers,
Set aside some you time to learn this enjoyable skill. If you can spare an hour in the morning (get up earlier) then great-if not shave in the evening.
Don't be fooled by the videos on the web where guys shave in 10 mins -The've probably been shaving for years.
It's going to take you all of 40/60 mins to shower ,prep face and carefully shave to start with.
Try to get into a routine early on so you can begin to notice your progress.
There will be times in the learning curve when you'll wonder why you started- but stick with it and you will get there-and we are all here to help with any problems.
Keep us informed of your progress.
Good luck and enjoy your shaving.
    Regards
    Noggs

Welcome to Straight Shaving and SRP! I wish I started straight shaving at your age! I would have looked a lot better earlier and shaved a lot of $$$.
