    Default Its getting better.

I have shaved with a straight all of 4 times. I can defenatly see a difference between my first shave and my 4th. I am finally getting the ange that is correct for my face i hope. I do half my face at a time and try to keep my lather hot. I soak my face first with a hot face cloth and put hot water in my mug with my soap and brush. Does any one know of a way to keep the lather hot enough to do my whole face or do i need to keep doing half my face at a time?

    it's supposed to.
as far as keeping the lather warm, a double walled scuttle is the solution to this, however i'm not sure why is the cooling lather a problem. perhaps you mean your lather is drying off, that's why you are lathering piecewise?

Congratulations - it's great to see the improvement! Part of the fun is learning and improving.

Re hot lather, you can try using 'scuttle' or 'hot lather' in a thread search (see link at top of page).

Someone else may chime in though.

    Enjoy the journey,
    Michael.

Yes it dries but not fully. I think its because i am slow still. But the lather in my mug gets cold before i can lather up the other side. Then i have to start all over again.

The temperature of the lather isn't a problem for me, even though when I was using the moss scuttle it was quite pleasant.
So, yeah you'll just have to keep your brush/lather in a warm vessel. It will dry faster as well, so you'll probably have to experiment with it a bit to get it right again.

Nice job! This is the most rewarding part about straight razor
shaving -- feeling your shaves improve day by day.

    Keep it up!

When I first started my lather would dry on one side before I finished the other. I had to re-lather. Warm lather aside, the speed will come with practice and both problems will soon be solved. Hang in there, it gets better.

Great that you are getting the hang of it. It will get better with time. I use a self watering flower pot from Wal-Mart ($3.00) to keep my lather warm and it works great. Just fill the outer bowl with hot tap water and make my lather in the inner pot.

Congrats! Glad the shaves are going well!

In terms of the lather, a scuttle may help you there. What I do is soak my brush in my shaving mug in hot water and them make my lather in the mug. The latent heat in the mug keeps my lather warm for ages.

I found my lather dried out on my face when I started, but even now I still relather each bit my face before I shave it. The reason I do this is to make sure I have the freshest (and therefore providing the most glide and cushion, in my head anyway! ) lather for each pass.

I guess this is just a habit I got into at the start and now I'm still doing it I'm looking for a reason why! I also like the feeling of working the lather on my face, and its getting me good results so I see no real reason to stop.

Good luck and keep us posted!
