Default Third Shave ... finally got myself...

Third shave with my w&b frameback, I finally drew blood. I was trying to get a side ways stroke for under my nose and was more concerned about having the razor not go up my nose than the angle I put it across my face. Good thing i have a septic stic. No problems after that. My neck is still stubbly though after i shave. I still cant get my angles right there.

Also a life lesson...... I haven't been using after shave. I havent seen the need. My grand father today gave me a bottle of Stetson aftershave.... After giving him the look, because i knew full well that's the cheapy aftershave that brut even champions, He said to trust him and give it a try...

... my face is still on fire.

    its been 15 minutes.....

I always thought it was supposed to burn quick and then cool to relieve any razor burn, which i had none. I guess Stetson is supposed to make your skin burn so bad you think razor burn is a refreshing alternative...

SO with that said Ive read some recommendations for aftershave, but knowing I loathe Stetson, what would be a good one to give a try?

It really depends on what you want and what works best for you.

Some gentlemen prefer the alum block. Some use it for the A/S and some use it then rinse and apply either a balm or splash. The alum block tends to get a lot of good reviews and is relatively inexpensive.

Personally, I have found the Castle Forbes balm lineup to be what works best for me however, sometimes I use Thayer's Witch Hazel or even Neutrogena Post Shave Lotion to mix it up.

And, don't forget to rinse your face with cold water after shaving.

So, you were a general smart ass with your grandfather as a youngster, I take it? A little payback, perchance?

Lot's of good AS Balms out there, To really put out the fire, after a particullary rough shave, I like Speick Men's Intensive Cream, and TOBS Sandalwood Luxury AS Gel, The Tobs is really nice, it has a strong Sandalwood scent that lasts and lasts..It's not cheap, but the good stuff never is. Another fav is T&H 1805, I love the scent, and it get's the job done...

Nivea, Neutrogena, and Every Man Jack at Target are good too, and a lot less expensive....

Witch Hazel and Alum are good, but not really soothing like a Balm IMO.
I use Alum post shave, then cold water rinse, followed by Witch Hazel, and soon after, a nice AS balm....It really soothes, Most days, any AS balm will work, if there's irritation, I reach for the good stuff....

Sorry to hear about your shaving mishap. Don't fret, though. It happens to the best of us in str8 razor land. Next time, stay focused. The key to using a str8 razor is similar to driving an automobile. That is, remain in control at all times.

BTW...Besides the styptic stick/pencil, get a small tube of Neosporin and put it on the cut to bar infection.

As for your aftershave burn...Try splashing some cold water on your face and applying some alum after your shave before applying any aftershave. It will close the pores on your face and reduce the burn from the Stetson aftershave.

As for aftershave recommendations...Try some Aqua Velva it has a nice scent and its relatively inexpensive.
