    Default Mentor request

    Hi

I am about to start with straights, I have read the Wiki and FAQ but would like to request a mentor. So if you would like to offer that I would be really grateful.

I am not sure what the mentoring support exactly is, could someone please tell me about it?

    Thanks

Well, I'm not actually a mentor, but there really isn't a "request a mentor" service... You don't get a designated "dad"

Just, whenever you have questions, go to the Beginners forum (or, for a more specialized question, to the corresponding forum: Straight Razors, Brushes, Strops, etc) and post your question... A plethora of mentors, veterans, moderators, and everyone else will weigh in and give you more advice than you could ask for... If you have any questions, just post them.

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

Edit: However, if you need someone "on call", I'm online quite often (yay for not paying attention during classes) so, if you are in the mood, just shoot me a PM (click on my name, then choose "send a Private Message") And I'll reply in short order... Just offering.

From the FAQ: Mentors: Tasks and responsibilities?

"Mentorship refers to a developmental relationship in which a more experienced person helps a less experienced person, referred to as a protégé, apprentice, mentoree, or (person) being mentored, develop in a specified capacity."

Looks like ShavedZombie has offered his services. Imagine telling your significant other (if there is one) don't worry about this seemingly crazy foray into STR8 razor shaving honey, I am being mentored by ShavedZombie, what could go wrong.

    Gee, Thanks Laz

I'll have you know I'm doing quite well myself, and only needed two resurrections so far. However, a true Mentor has reached the fray, and Richmondesi is a great guy, so, I'll bow out of this one, unless you need strop recommendations

    Cheers,
    Jeremy

I would take up Shavezombie' offer on strop recommendations. He really takes that seriously and has a pretty extensive collection of strops, known as SAD.

Picture the scene, he tells SWMBO about this preposterous new skill he is set on learning that involves sharp steel on his face and throat. She says how in the world are you going to learn this without killing yourself and he says "Oh don't worry I am safe in the capable hands of my mentor" "Oh who is this mentor" she says, and he replies "well all I know at this point is he goes by ShavedZombie". You gotta admit that would be priceless.

Actually, he got someone who offered their service... I meant it wasn't a set system.. Like a sponsor.. There is not DESIGNATED mentor for a person. A mentor can offer help, as Paul did, but you aren't assigned one. Meh... Semantics.

I call it research... My girlfriend calls it "One more of those and I swear to God I'm making a new pair of boots."
