    Default Traveling with straights

I do some traveling and my initial instinct regarding straight razors is that they don't need to be banging around loose in my shaving kit.

Apart from the (at present for me) prohibitively expensive cases I've seen for sale, how do SRP folks travel with their razors/strops? Has anyone come up with an innovatively inexpensive way to protect razor/brush/strop while on the road?

A plastic tooth brush holder from walmart, less than $1.

I just sandwiched my strop between clothes last time i traveled.

    Default Thanks!

    That seems reasonable.

I took to thinking about the issue last time I got home and found out a mini-bottle of hotel shampoo had cracked and oozed all over everything in my kit.

The thought of that stuff all over a razor, brush or strop was way past icky.

Classic Shaving sells coffins for under $4.
SRD sells nice leather sheaths for $11
Walmart sells toothbrush holders for $1
7-day set from old cigar box for ~$10
SRD leather 7-day leather roll for $50

I agree that you shouldn't let those nice razors bounce around needlessly. Above are some tried and true ways to keep those guys safe during your travels. Personally, I would go for the SRD leather sheaths because the reality is this...how many razors are you actually going to take on a vacation with you? two? That would only cost about $22 to keep them safe for a lifetime. If you just want the luxury of taking seven razors with you, then $50 for a leather roll is also really reasonable.

All manner of razor cases are available from many different vendors. They vary from inexpensive plastic 'coffins' to elegant hand made leather pouches. Several makes of travelling shaving brush which fit into their own handle are available.
Otherwise it's limited to your own imagination, everything from a school pencil case or tupperware to bubble-wrap and rubber bands.
Its difficult to see what harm could befall a strop wrapped in some tissue between your clothes. A small paddle-stop is useful for travel.

Shampoo and other goo (shave cream) belongs in a zip lock
bag that has lots of room for air to expand. While not
necessary any travel case can be improved with a little
bit of padding to keep the razor from banging about. Since
a razor is dry it can also be packed in a bold red sock tied off
with a spare shoe lace so you can find it.

    Thanks!

Those single sheaths from SRD would fit the bill w/o breaking the bank.

Which reminds me: need to get tonight's lottery ticket.

I just use the two plastic cases that came with my Dovos. Nothing fancy, but they work fine.

I have a 20ish cigar travel humidor (just leather case) from thompson cigar, was a free gift with order few years ago, that has an elastic strap across the center. I'm going to anchor in a few places to hold razors. 3-4 razors and still have room for bowl, brush and cream/soap probably little more.

Nice! Just the lines along which I was thinking when I inquired.

I'm wondering how much hassle would be involved w/ rehabbing a good cigar box.
