Default When does your shave feel the smoothest?

For introduction purposes, I have been using a DE for awhile now and have recently switched over to a straight razor in the last couple of months. I am very pleased and have had very successful results and am now fully straight shaving without issue.

My question is---when does your shave feel closest?

My face seems to feel the best about 30min-1hr after shaving. That is when the shave feels the closest and most comfortable. I don't have issue with irritation just seems to be smoother about a half hour later.

Congrats! I'm glad your shaves are going well!

I can see what you're saying. I find my face settles down after I've done a cold towel or two and put on some skin food.

My face doesnt feel irritated or sore after a shave, but just like I've dragged a razor sharp edge across it..! The cold towel and skin food close the pores and sooth the skin, so I would say my skin feels better after that.

I wouldnt like to just shave and go without the towels and skin food, thats for sure! For me at least, the post shave treatment is just as important as the pre-shave prep and the shave itself.

It feels best right after my standard witch hazel followed by alcohol based AS (i.e. cool, clean, but a little rough). It feels smoothest about 30 minutes later after my skins natural oils have completely replinished themselves. I suppose I could grease it up with moisturizer (skin food, AS balm, whatever) but then it would be too oily later.

For me, its about 15-20 mins after I have used alum and then applied some kind of aftershave balm/face protector/moisturiser.

Some don't use any kind of moisturiser/balm on the basis that it might make their face _more_ oily over time. I have tested this, and found it to actually be the opposite, and I chalk this up to the fact that my putting something moisturising on my face puts moisture back in, and my face then doesn't over-generate oil due to facial dryness. I could be wrong, but thats my experience anyway.

I guess 30 mins or so, sometimes right away, it depends on if I irritate myself or not, It happens. I use alum, witch hazel, and some kind of balm, but here's the deal, Normally, I shave before I shower, always have. I do the Hot Towel prep and wash with a face scrub before I shave. After I get out of the shower, I'll apply a balm or After Shave, It just seems to work better for me.

I recently brought this up. I find my shaves are just totally smooth when I finish and it doesn't get any better..with one exception my Livi Takeda. Maybe 30 minutes or so later my face feels smoother. Don't ask me why.

My shaves are smoothest right after I have shaved. I splash my face and neck with cold water from the tap, apply some alum to my face and neck and then splash some additional cold water on my face and neck.

i would agree that shortly after (within 30 minutes), my face feels smoothest. but i would also add that even a day after my face feels the same as when i used to shave with my disposable .
