Yup. Prior to a few days ago, I only had one type of shaving soap. They were oiled at the same time, and let sit for the same amount of time.

I'm really baffled. I'm going to assume it has something to do with the scales. That's the only real difference between the one that oxidized, and the one that didn't. Same blade material, same treatment, same product, same strop/stropper, same honemeister.

Gunna give them a real thorough going-over and oil the blade well (with something besides soy bean oil, this time).

That picture of your blade reminded me a lot of the mustard patina that I was experimenting with. One thing that was bad in my case, but would be good in yours if in fact it is the same type of discoloration, is that it wiped off very easily with a clean cotton rag and some simichrome.

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

That is good to know. I'll give it a shot when I get my razors back on the other end - I'm shipping them, and some other stuff, to the States before I go. I trust the post marginally more than I trust airport baggage handling.

I definitely won't get the opportunity to try it here - stuff's getting crazy in these final weeks in New Zealand. But I'll give it a shot when I have a little more time.

I use vasaline on my blades when I store them. It hasn't seemed to harm the blade. Is this ok to use?
