    Default Second Lather

It really makes a difference! Wow. I'm lathering in the shower, and I let it sit for a couple minutes, rinse, and re-lather as soon as I get out. The razor has much better grip, and the shave is incredibly comfortable. Definately continuing this trend.

The downside: Stropping is much more difficult that it appears to be. Knicked the Filly a few times already, and have taken to stropping on a table, just to make sure the whole kit and kaboodle is flat. Also....too cheap to pay for a second hone if I fold the edge. I'm trying to keep that from happening.

    Good times, Good times,

    M

I do the second lather on occasion too and I find that it helps a good deal.

    Glad you are enjoying it!

You're really getting your beard hydrated and softened with the routine you described. Pretty much the same thing as using a hot towel over lather and then re-lathering (maybe better?).

I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

I had to re-learn holding the razor and that helped me avoid nicking the strop. I was turning my wrist and holding the tang with the first joint of my forefinger and thumb. I read the 1961 barber manual excerpt on honing and stropping here.

Once I stopped turning my wrist and began to hold the tang between the tips of my thumb and forefinger I stopped having stropping problems. Their suggestion to practice flipping the razor without doing the stroke until you have that move learned is real helpful too.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

+1 There, first time under a straight razor that is what the Barber did and I learned from him so I never changed... Lather, strop, Hot steamy towel over lather, hot water rinse, re-lather, shave, AHHHhhhhhhhh !!!!
I might have to try the lather in the shower routine next time I am going to do just a face lather and not an Uberlather though sounds nice....

Nice, now imagine if your add a little Marseille soap to your brush to give it that extra umphh! and Voila and amazing shave as the olive oil relaxes the beard.

I've been doing this for sometime.
