Default Every morning is a good morning.

    Hello all,

I've done an incredible amount of reading on this site, and have clearly benefited from some wise words throughout the different forums. Thank you.

I've always wanted a straight razor. You see, I think I was born about 100 years too late. I like cigars, but I love pipes. I don't like hats, but I love English drivers. I'm not big on leather coats, but I love long wool overcoats, and I like wine, but I love cognac.....and so on, and so forth. So, as the pattern goes, I've always liked shaving, but now I love shaving.

I picked up a disposable to begin with, tried the Merkur blades, and switched to the Wilkinson's (much nicer in my beginning opinion). Then I did some reading, and then some more. I am now the proud owner of a Dovo 6/8 best, which just came back from Floppyshoes (we both live in Canada). The Filly is in the mail and should arrive soon. I have the place on my bathroom wall already picked.

My loving girlfriend supports my most antiquated hobbies, but this one she has completely embraced, as I no longer have a face that feels like a concrete block.

I think my shaving techique at this point (about a month) is pretty good, still developing, obviously. However, the only nicks I'm getting are from little bumps, no serious slices or digs anymore. So far, so good. I get to relax in front of the mirror, and drink my coffee while I shave (in my mind, that's a slice of heaven), and my mornings have become much less rushed.

Even though I've just registered, thanks to everone for the threads in the forums, and for all the info on the Wiki. It's helped considerably.

Oh...and for you Canadians on the site, try SHAVE THE WORLD from Lush cosmetics. Handmade shaving cream, similar in texture to cocoa butter. Holy smokes it feels nice. I also use their toner, which keeps your pores open to absorb more moisturizer. Final step post shave is "Cosmetic Lad", which tones down the irritation. Incredible.

    Thanks.

    Maxi,

That's just great...Glad that you are getting settled into the world of str8 razor shaving and enjoying yourself. I know that you can hardly wait until the rest of your shaving kit arrives. Patience is, as they say, a virtue.

As for the little nicks...Don't sweat it. To my mind they are part of the territory which human beings laid claim to when they decided to begin shaving. Nicks are no more than a nuisance. I've come to accept the occasional nick and an alum bloc, which stops the weeping instantly. As your face becomes more and more adapted to the razor and your technique improves they will become less frequent.

    Welcome aboard and happy shaving.

BTW...Can I return this bone-chilling cold and snow to Canada that blanketed Indianapolis today? I'd appreciate it.
