    Default Following E.F. Schumacher's advice

Hello all, glad to have found this place. Age of 22 and fresh out of Tampa, FL, to face the Northeast and Great Lakes area. I've been frustrated with the expense and the outdated mindset of use it and toss it that goes into shaving today. I've been thinking of how to reduce how much I have to spend over the long term and simplify my technological and economical lifestyle.

The habits I take the greatest pleasure in are the small, manual ones - hand-washing a few dishes, making a utensil by hand, baking some old-fashioned bread - and shaving. I keep a goatee and sometimes a chinstrap, but that doesn't mean that I want to spend a hundred some odd dollars on heads that have nowhere to go but the trash. The old ways are crafts, since they are functional arts, and I want that in my life.

I've yet to buy a straight razor or a kit, as I got caught in a precarious financial and work situation (somehow managed to get roped into working for some libertarian that runs his employees in a communist fashion: I'll work you and feed and shelter you, but I won't pay you.) Anyway, it'll be a bit, but it's nice to find this treasure trove of information after finding all the piecemeal sites that just offer expensive collectors razors for sale.

I'll be looking forward to that day when I can put steel to skin and make art, but for now I'll be learning as much as I can from all of you.

    Cheers!

Welcome to SRP. I once made the mistake of going to work for a fellow that told me he would pay me what I was worth. I got 3 noontime meals and $5.00 for three days..... and a good lesson.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
