    Default added strop

I had debated about buying the strop deal and after having it in my basket ready to order removed it. Thought I'd find one on ebay or something cheaper. After seeing JHenry's reply I called back and changed my order (Thanks J........ I think lol). The phone quality was horrible. I tried twice with the cell phone then the land line but both times it was so choppy I could "barely" (and I mean BARELY) figure out what he was saying. I actually shot him back an email making sure it was what I "thought" I heard. I updated the strop to the 3" red (wished they'd have had a 2 1/2" as though I'd know why since I've never had one before........ good ole research again lmao). Anyway just thought I'd update this thread because I know ya'll are sitting around waiting for my next reply with baited breath and are getting tired of hitting the "refresh" button and having your heart sink into your stomach when you see I haven't written anything yet lol).
P.S. Have you noticed how FUll OF S--T I am yet. If not just hold on and you will.

    Welcome again!

The addition of a descent strop now will likely save a lot of frustration, especially considering you can get a wide strop of descent quality. You will nick it up which is fine and easily remedied.

You are in good hands here and ordering with SRD, you can't go wrong. Take your time and review Lynn's DVD; it is a worthwhile investment as well! You are embarking on a journey that can provide hours of relaxation or frustration depending on if you develop an interest in restorations!

I couldn't help but notice your reference to ST motorcycles in your intro! I have shifted "gears" from a full dresser to a ST recently and would love to swap road-stories!

Oh brother I know where you are coming from because I am there with you! Drives my wife insane when I get singleminded about something new and just spend hours disseminating all the info I can about that subject and then boring her for hours talking about it. My forte has always been history but I can bore you on most anything except sports trivia.

I've pretty much run the gauntlet since 1973 myself. Started racing dirtbikes, then you name it. I've got a 07' Yamaha FJR 1300 pulling the honors at the moment. Plenty of stories that's for sure lol.

Just wait until you decide you want to hone your own razor... the research on types of hones will keep you spinning for quite some time!

    Welcome Aboard!

Nice Fudgger! I looked at them for quite some time. In fact, a friends FJR was the reason I started looking at a ST to start with. Opted for the Concours 14; both are excellent bikes!

Everyone thinks I'm one of the most intelligent people they know but it's because I have this "thing" about learning about anything that pops in my head that makes me say "Hmmmmm". If you only "knew" how many forums I've been members of. Want to know about Pipe Smoking? Pier Fishing? Motorcycle Sport-Touring? Yadda-Yadda-Yadda. Anyway..... enough of all that useless chatter. Sorry.
I've been thinking and wanting to shave with a straight razor for "years" but don't know anyone that does and quite frankly the thought of ripping off half my handsome face scared the h--- out of me (yes..... I look awesome for my age thank you very much lol). I have a few days stubble going on and thought I'd grow my goatee back and remember my barber telling me how easy it was with a straight razor (although he scared me away from actually buying one .... hmmmm). I found your site first and then YouTube and the rest is history. I ordered a "Professionally Sharpened Dovo Imitation Tortoise Shell 6/8" from SRD last night (squeezed in the lifetime honing deal) and can't wait to get started. I've been using a badger brush for years with the good ole Williams soap so I've already got a "makeshift" cup, soap and brush. I'm looking at strops now and probably a barbers hone so I can keep it top notch. I'm a little worried about striking it on something or possibly dropping it with my really large hands. Guess I'll just hold it and handle it some till it gets comfortable. I'll let you know how it all goes with my "learning curve".
Well, I've rambled enough now and done my part to follow forum rules by making this my first post so now it's your turn to Welcome me and give me all your tips, tricks and general knowledge so I can be a "Real Man" like the rest of you (sorry ladies but nothing I could do would make me even close to resembling a feminine "anything" lmao). The Best of the New Year to each of you and for those that are having a tough time with the present State of the Union......... my prayers are with you. God Bless!

    Welcome to SRP

You sound like me in regards to learning everything I can about a subject of interest. Recently, I was chatting with my boss and another coworker, and my boss asked me, "is there anything you don't know about?"
As the saying goes... Jack of all trades, master of none.
