    Default New Find

Well, Just back from another Antique Mall with my wife. I found a nice razor on sale for the Christmas Holiday and went ahead a picked it up.. 20% off... at 25.00 originally I went home with a nice razor for only...20.00

The razor is a C-Mon Blackie with no chips on the blade or scales.. It has the original bluing on the tang and a red diamond on the tang. I don't see any evidence of prevous use either.. Some restoration will be required I'm sure but I'm not sure how much.. the blade is a bit loose though it centers within the scales.. The blade is tarnished in places and maybe just a little rust....I thought I'd include some pictures and let you all let me know how to make it look brand new!!

Thanks for your advice in advance..

That's a good find. It's in decent condition really!
You could protect the tang, then wet & dry it (not too coarse though), then polish it up. A few taps on the pivot pin & it's ready to hone.
Looks like you could skip all that & straight to the hones if the aesthetics were no issue.

I'm confused by the very not black scales on a blackie, but still a great find for the price.

    Congrats

Nice find!! Should clean up nice w/metal polish like Maas and some elbow grease. I have a couple like this and they are great shavers! These shave just as good as the fancy black one w/ inlays and at a great price. Get 'er back in service ASAP!

Aren't local antique shop finds just GREAT!

Is the reason they call it a "blackie", because the tang is blued? It doesn't show up in the pics but it really is a nice gunmetal blue. I don't know much about, "wet/dry".. I' assumng that is some sort of fine sandpaper...

Nice score. The Blackie came both ways and I think those are original scales. The vintage NY razors are as good as the Solingens or so I am told by a friend who has some from Ellicottville.

If it was me I would just hit it with semichrome or maas or some such metal polish on a paper towel. Refinishing with sandpaper is a lot of time consuming work I think. More than I would want to do with the blade in that nice a shape. YMMV.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Thanks Jimmy,

There is a contest I read about on one of the threads for newbies first restoration.. I think I'll look for a razor with a little more to restore than this one..

I appreciate the knowledge of C-mon Razors... Nice to know that this is an original... it looks like its never been used.. there is not hardly any wear to the bluing from opening and closing the razor.
