    Default DIY Strop vs Bought

Guys I was reading the wiki and it had a DIY plan for leather strops. I figured I would go ahead and make a few since I am going to destroy one or two just starting out. How do these compare to the commercial strops? Should I just buy a cheapo strop or just make a few? I dont mind the time investment to make one, it is good to do for yourself.

    Thanks
    Jared

the most important part is the leather. if you don't quite know what leather is good for strops and what isn't so good you're much better off buying a good quality strop and be done. poor strop is a wast of money, no matter how little that money is. if you're worried about nicks on the strop using the reverse side of a good strop to practice the motion is a better option.

The outcome will depend on the quality of the leather and your ability. So, your in a better position to answer your question than we are. Vendors sell strops at all price and quality points but even the cheapest will do the job.

So what you guys are saying is I just need to make sure I am using top grain analine leather? I'll do a little more research, I just thought it looked like a fun project. Money isnt really a big concern, other than it is always nice to save a buck.
