Thread: Which Dovo to buy?

I think I have one of those good dilemmas on my hands...a choice between two dovo razors as my selfish Christmas gift. Choice 1) the stainless steal dovo ivory micarta. Choice 2) the Bergischer Lowe model.

Price is not really a factor nor is aesthetics. Quality wise, I'm sure both are about the same as well. Primarily, my question hinges upon the stainless steel versus the carbon steel. I'll be purchasing from one of the reputable sites that offers prehoning as part of the purchase, so that should be a non-issue. But, while I'm fairly experienced with shaving, I still have a long way to go before I try to hone. Thus, I want something that not only takes a great edge, but maintains one. Which would be better in that regard?

If a definitive answer doesn't come through, then I might just have to buy both! lol

Get what ever is more expensive, spoil yourself

stainless steel will hold a sharp edge longer but i was told it is much harder to hone.... but if its christmas to yourself i would go look at straight razor designs they are offering FREE HONING FOR LIFE right now

You can't go wrong with both. Stainless is nothing to be worried about in terms of honing though if that is the issue.

I just got the ivory micarta razor and its very nice. I think you will enjoy it thoroughly. I have not honed it, but the other stainless razors I have honed have only required a few extra strokes and really nothing else.

Thanks everyone! As I said, a good dilemma to be in...SRD is where I'm looking, which is how I'm confident the razor will come shave ready Maybe the other question I left out of the mix, and will perhaps stir some controvery, Which in your opinion is or would make for the "better shaver"?

I have used both, and I like the Bergischer Löwe better, both based on shaving characteristics (singing blade, lots of flex), as well as ergonomics (I find the micarta scales too wide).

Do you mean wide as in thick? I was always curious as I like the look of the razor myself. I just wish Dovo made it in a 6/8 as well.

I have the Bergisher Lowe. It's a great all around razor. The bone scales really set it off.
The blade is absolutely beautiful. I too wish it came in 6/8th, but it's negligible.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with it...

P.S. I guess I could have wiped it down a bit, but you get the idea....It's still a beauty....

As a comparison, I can't comment. I do not own a Stainless Micarta. I do own a Bergischer Lowe, and I love that razor. It holds an edge very well. It is the straight I started shaving with, so I find it begginer friendly in the edge department, just watch out for that spanish point though, it has given me only one problem one time, in my very first shave with it. The spanish point has made me a more aware straight shaver imho. It is a very smooth razor that provides a very commfortable straight shave. I highly recommend the Bergischer Lowe. But, you did say, that buying both razors is an option though? Then hey, Merry Christmas to yourself, and get both, spoil yourself. Why not. You than can compare both razors for yourself. Good luck in which ever you choose.
