Thread: shaving the mustache area. help!

i have been SR shaving for a month now and i am definitely getting the hang of it, but thats until i get to my mustache. i get bbs all over except my mustache. i scoop under the nose and shave downwards WTG but i don't get a clean shave. there are still hairs that are not cut short enough.

how well does your razor shave your mustache area going WTG? is my razor possibly too dull to shave that area?

Mine's the same. It's enough for me though, as i avoid getting really close. It just ends in ingrowns.
If you're not prone to them, try going XTG on your second pass.
If that's still not close do a search for Fools Pass. Just be sure to post the pictures if it all goes wrong!

I usualy just go WTG in the mustache area. When I really want it close I do two more passes from the center to the outside and then from the outside to the center. It is smooth but not perfect.

WTG works so-so. XTG works sufficiently, but since my razors are currently all "truly shave ready", I go ATG, too, resulting in a really close shave. No problems with ingrowns in that area, thankfully.

I go ATG under the nose. It was a while before I felt I had enough control of the razor to attempt it, but so far I've managed to avoid creating an extra nostril.

i tried going XTG, outside to the center. it cuts well until i i get closer to the center which then it starts to get a little rough. i had the same problem a few days ago resulting in a decent size cut. lots of blood and boy did that styptic help but it stung like a $&%^@%!!!!!! i really appreciate the help guys!!!

All this is what works for me, using a very sharp razor of course!

1. Go WTG on the first pass. I stay away from the heel of the blade because there is more control with pressure at the toe.
2. My hair grows from the center out under the nose so on pass #2 I use a scything motion and shave very short strokes with the toe from each side to the center.
3. Finally I go S-N using a scything motion, again with the toe or at least the last half of the blade.

You can leave off the scything motion and will get very good results but the blade will tend to grab a little more, at least it does for me.

I would also recommend stretching your upper lip as much as possible. Pull your top lip over your top teeth and use your thumb and pointer finger at the corners of your mouth to pull the skin tight. That always helps me get a closer upper lip shave going WTG.

That's what I say too... I've been doing it for months, but I just saw the video of Xman's fool's pass. Essentially what you do is use your off hand to assist in controlling the blade against the grain in an attempt to prevent that unplanned rhinoplasty that we all fear... You'll figure it out
