    Question neck!

finally shaved my neck up and down did pretty good only drew blood in 2 small spots..there is only one thing i dont know if its because the the way the hair grows on my neck or the blade just aint sharp enough but it pulls like crazy going across my neck like the blade wants to jump and skip but the thing is it will do the same thing with a DE with a brand new blade
and i was using a wade and butcher barbers point 6/8 with a wedge grind
i wonder if a 7/8 or heavier blade may help????
i was using a shave soap but it kept drying out on me so i ended up washing out my brush and went to a cream

Congrats on getting to this point. It sounds like either there isn't enough lather to make it "slick" for the blade or you need to stretch the area a bit more. Try this and let us know if it helped.

The neck was my most challenging area to master with straight shaving. Usually, my third pass is all about getting the neck and jaw line area BBS.

I used slant angles, some stretching, and different pitches of the blade to figure it out. It took several shaves to shave it correctly, so patience is a big plus for this area when moving up the learning curve.

    Never be shy about relathering.

    Good Luck,

    Pabster

Make sure you map your growth on your neck- there are many people here who have hair on their neck growing up, diagonal, and sideways (mine does all of the above .

There are quite a few threads on it, but mostly it involves trying crazy diagonal strokes to go XTG rather than ATG. If that works for you, that is.

ohh i lathered and re lather several times. i guess its just the way it grows or im not pulling my skin tight enough but then again looking back it has even done that with cartridge razors, DE and a straight..i def felt the burn when i put the aftershave on my neck today though haha while not bbs its better than a cartridge or electric can do

My neck requires shaving in two different directions for different areas if I want a smooth shave. The lower portion of my neck has hair that grows upward, while everything below the jawline grows downward. There's a definite midpoint where I have to switch or else I can tell I'm pulling against the grain.

My best shaves are when I really get that area lathered really well with very hot water. I use just the front third of the blade and work at following the growth pattern. Slowing down in that area is the only way that I've found to keep from nicking or giving myself a bit o' burn.

When I get down to the jawline I reach over my head down to my cheek and pull up hard. Keep shaving down your cheek and you'll be shaving your jaw and part of your neck. When you let go you won't have much neck left to shave. Anyway, works for me.

My Neck/Throat area is a challenge too. I guess it sharpens our skill having swril cowlicks on tender, hard to stretch skin. I, if I may, recommend giving a dry unlathered place for my fingers to "grip" my neck skin so as to stretch more (trying to grip skin on slick lather is a bad move IMO) . Also I go back and re-hot towel the neck before going to it. Think two different shaves altogether. Face, then neck. Each with their own prep and execution and objective. I don't dig for BBS on my throat as much as I do with my face. The passes are different down there too. Also I prep with more diligence for my throat. That's what works for me anyhow. All the best-J

johnny i like where your going with that! im def going to try that and see what happens... on a side note anyone seen the you tube video with this kid shaving its in black and white hes slaming down on a pint of whiskey and having a smoke this guy shaves off an entire beard in 2 passes...makes me wonder how is it possible to shave that fast without getting cut and a beard at that. my only guess is that he must not have coarse facial hair like most everyone else it seems

Yeah, Ive seen it. He saved up such a heavy growth that when he shaves it away it appears All gone and BBS. If thats good for him then awesome. He does have a great technique. I myself prefer taking out a lot of time and really getting Rain Man and uberticular when I shave. It just feels better for me. I never rush or neglect my precious "Me Time". My Vid would have run 20+ min. But that's me man.
