Thread: Noobee buys his first straight razor

Just found a WH Morley and Sons at a local antique store for $20. Bought it before I discovered this site, but I think it was probably a good buy.

Blade looks to be in good condition -- no pitting, only the very end grabs on the fingernail so a little honing is in order there, if not modest grinding. I'm a violin maker by trade so I am looking forward to working the steel AND working my whiskers. No more disposables into the landfill! Hurrah!

I don't own any, but Morley's are supposed to be good shavers

Welcome to SRP. IMHO, your best bet would be to send it out to Lynn or one of the other honemiesers in the member services here. That way you would have a known quantity. A shave ready razor with which to compare your efforts with. Pick up a couple of more vintage razors in good condition and try honing those yourself. Here is the beginner's area of the SRP Wiki.
