Thread: looking for honing videos

Hello everyone

I was a member of this forum, this hobby, 3 yrs ago. I bought a couple razors, a beginner hone set, and I tried to enjoy the hobby. I could not get the hang of honing, I tried and tried, and the razors were always dull. I gave up. Now, after 3 yrs, I want to try again. I want to find a honing video I can download to my pc, I already saw Bert's video (excellent) but its a youtube video, and it doesn't explain much, just shows him using his stones.

I also have a small problem about rust spots on my razors. When quit the hobby, I just put them in a box, along with everything else, and there it was in a closet, for 3 yrs. Now I take them out and they have rust spots on them. I bought a sheet of 600 grit sandpaper and was able to get some of it off, but much of it is still there. These razors aren't expensive, but they are my only ones, I want to make them look better.
One is a Filarmonica, then a Dovo, then a nice old Robeson I got thru eBay. Any ideas, suggestions?

I would say check the Wiki and check Lynn's DVD which is on the site now for honing issues. As far as the rust goes, if the sand paper couldn't take it off you probably have serious issues and maybe pitting. Check it under magnification. Pictures would help.
