Thread: Newbie With a new razor, too Elite? thoughts?

Thank you for the quick replies. Think I am going to enjoy learning this with such quick and helpful people to talk to. I get it in the mail tomorow and I can't wait. Tho will be a bit before I try it. Face still hasn't healed yet.

I'm a newbie, too. I also got a DOVO, but a much cheaper model. I think all the DOVO's are good, and I think you got one of the better ones. I don't think you can overbuy as long as it fits your budget and you still have some money left for food and rent.

It's also good that the razor was professionally sharpened before you got it.

Again, with regard to overbuying. Often the scales will determine the price of the razor, so you can still get a good razor for less if you just get cheaper scales, but the better razors tend to have better scales and are just prettier. Nothing wrong with that.

Welcome to SRP! Your choice is a good first razor, 5/8's round point. Straight shaving has a steep learning curve so be patient and read the wiki. Unless you purchased the razor honed you will get it sharp but not shave ready. If not honed you need to send it to Lynn or one of the other honemisters listed in the classified section to make it shave ready.

Be patient with your learning and you will be rewarded with the best shaves possible!
