Hiya chaps
Newbie here, had posted at length earlier this month but took so long the darn thing timed out and I lost the post. Ah well.
Got given a straight razor as a gift and used it to trim my first real beard. It was so good that I no longer have beard ... put that one down to enthusiasm/inexperience
.
Nice to be part of this group, it definitely adds to the quality of life using an open bladed razor, can't explain exactly how.
Now, I just need to figure out how to shave the 'philtrum' properly, thus avoiding a sinister/comic 'tache.

Sounds like you've been doing well. Let me welcome you to SRP.
For the under the nose area, I usually use a kind of scooping downward motion. I only go WTG in this area. You can flatten and stretch the area out by curling your upper lip around your upper teeth and pulling down. Hope that made sense.

Thanks for the swift welcome! Lynn Abrams has done a great service to Man-kind, and not before time! I am going to study the videos you pointed me to, this requires planning and thought! I got lucky first time, no nicks or cuts, now I need to learn some skills.

welcome, sounds like you are off to great start. just remember to take it slow and do not get discouraged. there is a learning curve and it will all come in time. i have been at it for bout 6 months and glad to have made the switch to straight shaving, and i am still learning...good luck
