Thread: What to put on Strop????

What should I charge my strop with? I currently have Wenol wheel polish in Ultra Soft (the blue tube), some Tormek honing compound, and some DMT diamond paste in Medium......don't know how to grade them and which to use for everyday touch-ups....

For everyday use you use a plain unpasted strop. The pastes are for touchups when needed.

I'm not sure about the wheel polish. They usually contain chemicals to dissolve brake dust and its pretty powerful stuff. I'm not familiar with the other stuff.

The Wenol blue is for chrome and the red for polishing steel and other non plated metals. For my main strop rubbing with the palm of my hand is as much as I do with it. Like thebigspendur and most other guys I keep my main strop untreated. A pasted paddle, flatbed and a hanging felt are my pasted alternatives when I feel the need to use one of those. Not sure how to grade the DMT medium. Try it on a piece of 1/8 balsa for a cheap and effective stropping alternative.
