Can someone shed some light on these numbers for me? I assume they are measurements but what do they mean?

Those are a measure of the width of a razor blade, from spine to edge, in 1/8ths of an inch.

OK i figured thats what it was but wanted to make sure i didn't look like a complete fool later on it could have been say a different measurement like maybe angles or something of that nature.

The usual advice to someone new to shaving with a straight razor is to look at razors in 5/8, or 6/8 sizes, ideally with a round point.
