Thread: Stropping with Loose Pin

Until you decide on what to do (tighten yourself or send it off), you can do what I did. My first purchase was two vintage razors at a local antique shop. One had bone scales and the other had French Ivory. The FI is my daily shaver since it has a rounded point. I have good luck stropping it but the scales are getting a little loose so I'm glad there is a relatively easy fix (at least I think it is easy, we'll see when I try it).

The bone scaled one has a very loose pin and flops around when I try to strop it resulting in a big gash in my strop. I tried wrapping a rubber band around the end where the monkey's tail is covered by the scales. It helped to stabilize the scales in two ways: it applied pressure to the scales on both sides of the monkey's tail adding friction to decrease the tendency to move, and it also provides a soft stop to keep the monkey's tail from passing out from under the scales. Just remember to remove it before you close your razor or you will have to get a new rubber band.

I have had a few stropping sessions with my loose pinned razor. I am trying hard to only rotate the blade by the tang, but for some reason the scales are still moving. I am very reluctant to try to re-pin or tighten, so if I do, I will send it out... Till then tape, a rubber band, or something like that will be my quick fix...
