Hi Gang,

I must post because I am quite excited with today's shave. Some who read will remember me from the Chat last Wednesday night.

My first experience was awful, as i mentioned too many of you on the chat. I told you I have been shaving others with a straight for years and I am just starting to shave myself with a straight razor, and why is it harder to shave myself? Well, based on tonight's shave, it was the angle.

I guess when I am shaving patrons it is easier to shave with the right angle but when I tried shaving on me I thought the angle was right but apparently it was not. Tonight I tried steepening the angle and I must say it was the best shave ever. Compared to anything I have ever used. I still have some areas to work on and I am still waiting for my REAL straight razor ( i used a shavette) but for my second shave I think it is awesome.

Congratulations! I knew a steeper angle would help, especially on your chin. Just wait till get a real straight with some good balance. I'm glad to hear it went well, you'll be amazed of the difference with a genuine straight.

Glad to hear shave #2 was better for you. I'm sure you'll find that they get better and better as you go along.

Welcome to SRP Bret! Shaving other you have a view of what you are doing and the angle of your blade. When shaving yourself you loose a lot of the visual monitoring and have to rely more on the feel of the shave and the feel of the razor in your hand. When I started shaving with straights I had the same problem w/ angle. I had my wife watch me shave and note when my angle got too far out. I practiced trying to be more conscious of the angle in the spots I couldn't see as well and developed a 'feel' for the razor in my hand for the proper angle. I still have CarrieM watch me from time to time to see if I am drifting away in any spots. I wear glasses and shave w/o them. For me I just look to be sure I am not going to cut anything off and the rest of the shave is by feel, especially on hot sticky days when I have sweat getting into my eyes.

I'm guessing your in the Charleston area.. Where do you gives shaves at? My wife come down that way every now and then. We were married (damn that day) at Meeting Street Inn.

Welcome to the SRP Brent. I looked at your profile and then went to your home page and just about fell off my chair. I saw that your shop is in Bluffton, SC where my mother lives and we have a good chunk of land there near "Rose Du" creek. I have many relatives who either live in Bluffton or in Savannah. I will be sure to look you up the next time I'm down there. Maybe have a get together and have a low country boil. We can get a few croaker sacks of oysters from the Bluffton oyster, crab and shrimp place.

Hi David,

I am closer to Hilton Head Island, SC. That is about 2 hours from charleston. Still just a hop, skip, and a jump. I go to charleston quite a bit. I know meeting street well. King street is my favorite. There is a cool cigar shop there across from the park.

Wow, small world huh? I would love some land in Rose Du. I actually live down the street from Rose Du. Closer in to the old town of bluffton. In face my daughter may be taking horse back riding lessons in Rose Du.
