It wouldn't allow me to post the entire thing so I had to break it up:

I shaved last night with Dovo Best Quality and I must say I thought it was going to be harder than what it was. If I recall correctly it's shaving with the grain ( with the hair downwards ? ) makes it easier. Furthermore, by taking small strokes it made it even better for me. Also I think Lynn may have mentioned that. I took it it nice and slow which is why it took me 20 minutes. The same amount of time I shave my head ( clipper 0 on sides and fade-no BIC whatsoever ) :P

Now I know this is entirely different from cutting hair. I've cut mine since early HS and it's a great experience. Besides looking forward to cutting my hair I can do so with straight shaving! Let me tell you I got so into it I gave myself a razor burn hahaha

Even when shaving my head every now and again I do the same because it's so relaxing. You're in this mindset, a zone where you are in sanctuary of sorts. I know it in my head but I'm sure you guys know what I mean.

I don't know if you guys want me to post my gear as I'm sure you've seen them over 9000! times :P

In summation, with preparation and experience I'm looking forward to trying XTG and ATG. I got confused between the two at first but it makes sense now I think. I'd like to try some different grips as well. At this point I'm only comfortable with the V grip where my index finger is in between the shank/tang and scale. Hope that made sense.

    *Side note
I was so ecstatic about getting my razor set I'd forgotten to order drip stand

Also got two razors from RetroGrouch ( awesome dude ) and look forward to those. I didn't know which to go with so I flipped a quarter. I'm pretty sure most of you guys rotate as well. Dare I say have at least 1 SR for each day of the week

    Congrats on the shave!

How smooth was it for you w/ just a WTG?

The razor burn is a sign of either too much pressure or doing too many passes. Try witch hazel after your shave, I never heard of it till I joined here but it works wonders. Dickinson's and thayer's are the big brands you'll be able to find dickinson's at any big name store (target wallmart) in the pharmacy section for a couple bucks. Theyers can be found at vitamin stores and GNC but costs around $8

also you asked me in a PM about the cream at bed bath and beyond. It is called C.O. Bigelow (relabled proraso) and is $5-10 depending on size

hehe you think you can't stop rubbing your head wait until you get bbs (baby bottom smooth) on your face. People will stare at you w/ the most alarmed look as you go over every square inch w/ a huge grin on your face.

I think you talking about a razor/brush stand right? There is a guy who goes by ssilcox on B&B who makes custom made acrylic (plastic) stands very cheap

    Home page

or you could always just use a wire hanger to make a redneck brush stand
and a toothbrush holder for your SR

Seven razors already! Just remember to go slow and enjoy each and every one of them

oh no it's only 4 razors.

As for the shave I first used Dovo Black Star ( my roommate had the keys to mailbox and gave me package w/ used razors only after ). It felt like...a bag of sand hahah no it felt like shaving sand paper or a little bit of both. I kept thinking "You want to shave at 30 degree or less not 90 you don't want to scrape your face..." I kept re-playing Lynn's advice in my head.

To be honest with you I didn't think my hair would grow that fast after shaving. Either that or I'm losing my mind. Usually I could go for 2-3 days without shaving ( electric ) but no matter. I look forward to it.

As for my head I just use hairclipper. I'm shaving it bald as is but sure would look nice with BBS. Perhaps when I've acquired the skill I'll do so.
I only shaved my sideburns and neck. The goatee as well as whole facia will be shaven on my second attempt. Depends on how I feel. But most definatle ly look forward to it

I'm heading out to Walmart for that aftershave. Damn I can't believe there's several of them I've AD as is. This isn't helping. Must...stop...help me.

Another note, it's too bad the Lowes, Home depot, Big5 and even Wlamart around here don't carry Renaissance wax or even Tuf-Glide and cloth which means I'll have to pick one up from Amazon. Which is cool since free shipping. I'll hold out on Tuf items for now though.

I'll also have to see if WinCo may have that Witchhazel. I don't recall seeing it last night.

I'll let you know how it is.

BTW is that your setup? That looks really nice. Also did you pick those shave stands up from Shane as well? If so which ones? I like the smoked look and I'm still going over the engraved. I'm going through MS Word's style as we speak.

John many thanks my friend!

witch hazel isn't considered an aftershave really, it is an astringent though so your face will feel tight afterwords. Also you should know that witch hazel has a very pungent smell, this usually goes away as soon as it dries but just so you know. Theyer's comes in scented brands but like I said the cost is higher. If you use after shaves or cologne they should cover the witch hazel smell right up

    the common routine is:

    shave
    warm water rinse(wwr)
cold water rinse (cwr) some do this after the witch hazel instead
    witch hazel/alum block
    aftershave
    moisturizer
    cologne

I just shave wwr cwr then witch hazel and thats it (gonna try an aftershave soon)but everyone has different tastes

once you get your technique down you won't get stubble till way later in the day(almost 12 hours for me).

There is no known cure for AD except for death and poverty

No the setup isn't mine just an example of how you don't have to spend alot to get functional results. I do own a fatboy (DE) though my brush for now is tweezerman until I rebrush one of the vintage brushes I picked up.

I did order one of shane's stands (smoked 1brush 1 DE 1str8t w/ a design) but it got switched w/ someone elses stand. The stand that came works fine just not what I ordered. Shane apologized and is sending mine back out, the stand that came was clear so I can't tell you how the smoked looks in person but it looks good in the pics he has so I'm sure I'll love it.
