Thread: 1st Straight only shave -ATG!

Well I did it!

Completed a full shave, WTG, XTG and ATG with only my straight... and my DE sitting lonely in its box waiting for something to do.

My very first go at the straight was when the razor wasn't properly sharpened (and it was my first time) - I got ambitious and did whole face, WTG, XTG and ATG - and ended up with hot face for the day!

Then I got it sharpened better and spent the week only WTG then finishing with the DE.

Last night did some reviewing of the SRP wikis (esp the razor holds for ATG and the videos).

The big shave!!
Did all my prep, did the WTG passes, regularly re-wetting and re-lathering my face. Did XTG passes ( chin and nose) and this is usually enough for these places and ATG everywhere.

Results
Pretty good - only one nick on left side of chin (that seems to have gone now). Chin could improve - so far the DE has done best job here, but I think the straight is catching up quickly! Lip - excellent, especially the corners, where I tend to get red from trying to get at the last hairs - no redness today (better than DE!)

Challenges - well, I've been using both hands anyway, but going ATG felt awkward with my left hand, especially around the chin - that's where I got my one nick (which is not even noticeable 20min later).

Still experimenting with the face-wetting and lathering so this will continue. I think that re-wetting and re-lathering really helps too - esp. if lather on face gets dry or bit too cool.

Congrats on the three-pass shave.Just don't try to do too much too fast.That's when Murphy's law kicks in and you get bit but good.Best of luck,it only gets better.
