    Default Odd directional beard growth?

I've been reading through whatever I can find in the forums tonight, and as I felt the growth coming in on my face I wondered: Does anyone else have facial hair that grows in from several different directions? I just stopped to count, and my face has at least seven different sections that have distinctive growth patterns. some are only a few square inches at the most, but on each side of that the hairs are growing in all manner of directions. Is this going to suck tremendously when I shave by taking two or three seperate swipes at every small spot? How many of you have hair growing more than one or two directions and how do you get around this?

Yes, I have multiple directions of hair growth. There are a couple of areas near my jaw line where the hair seems to grow in a starburst pattern! Basically, you take it slow, you take it gently and you enjoy the challenge of working out the best angle of attack. Shaving is as much a puzzle as anything else these days and it's all the more enjoyable because of it.

yeah, my cheeks grow one way, the bit below my chin grows another, and the sides of my kneck have a couple of different directions.

Ive a little 'swirl' that needs close attention, but once you get the angles right its fine.

Just be aware of the growth patterns and shave accordingly.

I personally think that's normal though some may disagree with me.

In terms of shaving think of it this way, if your beard is growing in all different directions then when you conduct a pass of whatever type, it will be incorporating ATG,WTG,XTG all in one on different parts of your face.
So if you do a generic WTG, ATG & XTG (if you desire to do 3 passes) it's going to accomodate the whole beard.

    I hope that made sense

I was just going to post the same question. My beard grows in all directions and it's really thick, so I've been going really slow and trying to figure out what direction each area goes in.

I believe all beards grow like that. I just go top to bottom on first pass and up on the next pass and the on the third pass go from ear to chin. My whiskers don't know what hit them.

Same here for the odd hair pattns:

-Left sideburn is sideways, right is straight up/down
-Left jawline is up/down, Right and neck/throat is sideways
-chin is impenetrable forest of despair

I usually do cross grain passes for simplicity's sake, and it works just fine.

My straight razor teach has taught me that this is quite common. However, he states that part of your beard always grows in a J hook patern. I have that on my left cheek.

This is completely normal. I think you may find this link from ye old wiki useful to answer both of your questions: Shaving passes - Straight Razor Place Wiki
