    Default Lubrication

Quick question for the experienced shavers.

Currently hot water seems to suffice ,with my 3 or 4 blade shaver, for effective lubrication and a smooth shave with no rash etc.

If i were to try this with a straight razor, would the results be catastrophic ?

You'll probably find the razor skips, causing nicks, & that you get rash & burn.
That's not to say you shouldn't try it in the interests of research. Stretch well & report back!

I've used just water overtop of a small amount of
remaining lather, for the second pass. If you are
an experienced shaver, water-only should be OK
to attempt, just make sure not to let your face
    dry out.

We have had individual members over the years who have preached the virtues of shaving with just water. All in all, I would say that those in favor of good suds have always been the majority.

    Have fun,

I may try it once, just to see how effective it is. If it truly is awful for my first time (which i'm sure it will be ) then I will find a nice soap to use.

I have to say, the appeal of a thick lather is somewhat irrestible compared to my usual quick shave.

I'd recommend you save the water pass for a later date. Wait till you've got a bit of experience behind you. There's enough to get to grips with right now without making it even more challenging.

It is hard enough to get everything right just starting out. Adding another factor is will just make it worse.

I recommend you find one soap you like & 1 razor initially. Dont introduce any extra variables, concentrate on your technique.

Without a doubt wait for awhile until you get the basics down.
