Thread: Restoration question

Hi everybody, another total newbie here to straight shaving. Sharp things have always held my interest, I've been collecting knives and swords for a decade+, but last week something else caught my eye in an antique store. 2 straight razors. I've never really thought about straight razors, but having one in hand makes a world of difference, they simply look amazing. Reading up on them, straight razors really seem like the way to go (I have problems getting a good shave with your typical M3 even with good prep, really heavy and fast growing beard).

So now I'm wondering if these blades could be restored to shave status, and if so where or how to do so and how much it would cost. If it's not too much, it seems like it could really save me money versus buying a brand new blade. If anyone has an opinion on the pictures of the blades below, or if they could be brought up to snuff and where, I'd love to hear it.

The bigger one seems to have a fair amount of rust on the one side, but no heavy pitting and the actual edge is still in decent shape. The smaller one has no rust and really no pitting, just looks dull and like it needs polishing.

And yeah they could be cleaned up and should have a lot of life left into them.

Welcome from one newbie to another. There are people here who can bring those back and make them look and shave like new. The larger one (Wade and Butcher) is called a frameback just found one like it myself. I'm torn on what I want to do with it. actually frameback is something a bit different, it's when the blade is a separate piece from the spine.
this one is usually referred to as 'concave grind'.
