    Default Hello, New to Straights!

    Hi all,

Just got into this whole wet shaving thing back in January. I'm a member at B & B well. I started with DEs and have a few including a Fatboy, Slim (isn't that a band?), NEW and a Slant.

I mentioned the fact that I was sort of collecting razors to my barber, and he gave me two straights! Then last week, I was talking with a co-worker, and he mentioned he had a set of straights in his basement that he wanted out of the house. Naturally, I offered to take them off his hands...

Well, he gave me a partial seven day set of "Amboss Mann" razors. Whoo Hoo! Now, having these in my possession, I figured I had to learn to shave with a straight.

Up to this point, I really had not considered shaving with a straight, but having these beautiful tools given to me, it seemed a shame not to put them to use.

I have arranged to have one honed by a member of the B & B, and will be ordering a strop soon, after that, I'd like to send two more out for professional honing. I'll give it an honest shot, and if I decide it's for me, will begin attempting to learn to hone...

That's a lot for now. Glad to be here, looks like a great bunch!

P.S. Can anyone tell me about these razors??

I've never seen that razor before, but I will warn you about the gold leaf before you learn the hard way. If you use any kind of metal polish (the two most often recommend in this forum are Maas and Flitz) on your razors, it will take the gold leaf off quite rapidly. That means you need to be very careful around the gold leaf if you want to keep it.

    Welcome to the straight side!

Thanks for the tip. I had read that earlier. What is a good way to protect the gold?

Welcome to SRP from one newbie to another. there is a photo album here where you can show your razors or other stuff (I just started an album myself from my trip antiquing Saturday - 5 razors one shop - I was in Heaven). I'm still hoping someone can help with putting some sort of a dates on them. If you're new to str8's make sure and read all you can on the wiki it will answer a lot of questions. if you can't find an answer someone here can usually help. Those look like some nice razors, good job.

I hate you. The only way I could hate you more would be if the two razors that the barber gave you were the missing ones from the seven day set (that you were given).

    Welcome
