    It should stop being used when it stops shaving. If you would like to preserve the etching, then I guess that works as well. But it will take a long time to reach the etching.

    I have no desire to maintain the etching, but I do have a desier to keep shaving with the inox for the remainder of my days.

    I have heard that some straight razors have been found in eygptian tombs, however those blades are circular like a woman's necklace. So it really depends on what you would call a straight razor. I have read that the straight razor itself goes back to the 1740s when it assumed its straight shape. Before that the straight razor had a wedge shape, this goes back to the 1600s. Before that the straight was rounded like a woman's neclace, like the ones found in the eygptian tombs.
