    Default Yep, another newbie

Ive been lurking for a little while now reading as much as I can. I found this site while trying to find out how to avoid the nasty ingrown hairs... Between that and the pain/cost Ive always had to deal with using Mach3 type razors (and the two horrendous electric attempts) I think using a straight might just be the solution.
I have been using a disposable blade straight for the last week. Since I wasn't sure if it would be right for me it was an inexpensive way to try out the shaving part of using a straight...

I have never been able to shave back to back days in the past but did so with ease between yesterday and today. My fiance loves it because I rarely shave so It's time to order the real thing! I have been getting a respectable shave overall-- still do not have the tech for just under the jawline right yet but its getting there. I also have a goatee so I don't have to worry about the upperlip or chin...

Thanks to everyone who makes this site a great source of information

I have frequently run into men such as cryan and they have freqently told me that their GFs or fiancee's love the fact that they shave with a straight, the women seem to think its real manly to shave with a straight.

My GF looks at me like I have 7 heads. Doesn't stop me though. I'll feel my own face if she doesn't.

My Mrs thinks that I have nine heads for shaving with a straight.

Well... between us that's 16 heads. Maybe our Mrs's need THEIR heads examined, yes?

The finance isn't thrilled about the use of a straight razor but she knows why I hate shaving so much in general and agrees from what she has seen that it seems to be the answer...

She is just happy that Ive been clean shaven (for me- not just running a beard trimmer at zero) this past week

Now to decide on a razor and strop...

    Welcome to SRP!

The only advice I would offer on purchasing a razor is what was given to me, which proved invaluable as a beginner, which I still am

Purchase a razor that is professionally honed from a vendor that backs up his or her products and services. This will give you a basis from which to learn what a well honed razor feels like. It will also give you the greatest opportunity for success. There are many that can be found on the Vendors portion of this site. Many run deals that include a strop which you will need for daily maintenance.

    Enjoy.

    Joe
