Ok so shave #3 has been leaps and bounds from #1 and #2. Not perfect by all means, but a LOT better.

grats on keeping with it, it definitly gets alot better and soon enough you'll be having the best shaves youve ever had!! just curious have you done the against the grain (atg) or across the grain (xtg) yet?

I've done xtg, atg seems to be hard still, and I want to get my razor honed before I try it again. Unfortunately doing wtg alone doesn't do as much for me, and since my beard grows in a weird pattern I have to do at least xtg go get not only closer but more comfortable.

My neck is red, but that may be a result of the xtg I believe.

That initial learning curve is great fun. It's nice to be able to judge progress so easily.

I've been at it for about 3 months-- boy, I remember the first few weeks trying to figure out the best way to hold the razor, what's the best pass, which way is the hair on my neck actually growing... I think it took me 45min to shave. Now I have the muscle memory down (in both hands), and it takes me about 20min to do 3 passes (but I have a mustashe and goatee).

Besides the wiki on this site, I found the following document by Christopher Moss to be extremely helpful, esp the section on shaving passes. In fact, it was thru this document that I found this forum! (has a "useful links" section in the back)

    Take care,
    -Chief

Congrats on a great start! Stick with it, it keeps getting better. It took me a month, but I can now do my entire shave with a straight. WTG, XTG and AGT. It's not BBS yet, but it certainly is a DFS.
