Default worse shave with a HHT sharp razor than non HHT sharp?

Just got my DD in the mail. Sterilized and got to work. Second worse shave I've had. Didn't strop it thinking HHT is good enough (I've been making do with a non HHT blade).

Just a bit of point bleeding, but not from cut cuts (i.e. I don't see a long cut). Too much pressure (that I may have become used to from using a non HHT blade)?

Am I doing something else wrong?

Edit: Yea, THT == HHT, not thinking straight.

What is THT? Do you mean HHT?

The HHT isn't the end all test. Most razors I've seen that pass the HHT are indeed pretty sharp though, and sharp razors require much less pressure and careful technique. If you start whipping a very sharp blade around your face like you would a so-so sharp blade, you'll definitely be in for some irritation and/or nicks.

Unless by THT you didn't mean the HHT... in which case, what is the THT?

In any event, you should strop before you shave every time regardless of what tests it's passing...

Is THT the hanging hair test? Assuming that it is, you might consider the fact that a razor can pass that test and still provide a pretty lousy shave. In fact, micro serrations in the edge that can help it cut a hanging hair are just what make the same edge pretty rough feeling. Assuming your technique is adequate, your edge may need some work. I would at least treat it to a good stropping.

This is a pretty good example of why most of the top Honemeisters feel that the only reliable test is "live fire"....how does it shave?

As an aside, have a lot of razors that I can't get to pass a hanging hair test. I doubt that anyone would call these razors anything but great shavers, so I write it off to the fact that I am probably not too good at performing the test. Maybe my hair is no good
