I'm intrigued seeing how my post was very short. What did you mean specifically? I think this is one of those things that I can read a lot about but I'll have to get the practice.

    Thanks.

Gliding through the skin is never a good thing!!! Better only the hair

My first shave felt the same way afterwards, but it improved greatly in a week or so.

Well what I meant was it was more like bouncing and skipping than doing one smooth pass.

I had that skipping problem also. Mine was a combination of not knowing how hard to grip the razor and a razor that was not sharp enough.

I had a similar problem but I believe the biggest factor was angle... I was using way too steep an angle for the blade...

    All above is great advice.
    Just a review:

    1) Send the blade to Utopian, it will be there when you get back, and it's free, you can't beat that.
    2) Read the wiki and all the posts in the newbies corner, there is lots of good advice there.
    3) Practice, practice, practice.

You seem to be having a good start overall, keep it up and good luck!

I forgot about that one. I did the same thing also. Keep it close to the face, 30 degrees or less.

Ha I ran into that but I realized that I was looking at it wrong, with 0 degrees being perpendicular to my face. So I was going at it with a 70 degree angle :P

I'm hoping to either have it honed in the UK or buy a new one pre-honed. Maybe I can go to Dovo or Thiers-Issard while in Germany. I'll be on tour there for over a year, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of chances.

And, I snagged a pic of my new setup.

70 degrees is a little steep

There are plenty of Europeans on this board, maybe you can find one to help you out in the coming year. A honing session should take less than an hour.

P.S In my twenties I played guitar or roadied all over the upper midwest (now just local) good luck!!
