Default How to Protect the Blade

I just wanted to say Hi! I am New to Straight Razors I have been shaving with one for the past three weeks & Love it!! I was wondering on types of Oil that can be used to protect the razor & what methods of applying, removing and time frame. I bought one razor and was given one so while I am only using one at a time how should I store & protect the blade from rust and tarnish while not using or traveling (weekend road trips).

I just smear a thin layer of Vaseline on the blades. When it's time to shave, wipe it off and strop. Good to go!

A lot of guys like Camellia oil or Tuf Glide. I use an Outer's Silicone Gun Cloth impregnated with R.I.G. (rust inhibiting grease). Unfortunately I don't think it is made anymore.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Ballistol
After shaving, clean and dry the razor, put a drop or two of oil on the fleshy part of your palm near the little finger, and carefully apply it to the blade using a stropping motion.

Also Ballistol. I apply it by a stropping motion on a cotton ball or my palm.

Baby oil or mineral oil, it's cheap and easily found. It was recommended to me to keep a machine I was running from rusting while not in use, so I figured why not razors also. I just pour a bit on a cloth and apply. When it's time for the next shave I just take a soft cloth and wipe it off.

If you only have the two, it's probably not necessary. Rinse with hot water after shaving, dry off, leave to dry and give them a few laps on the linen/canvas/leather just to dry off the edge. Having said that, oiling's not going to any damage so go for it if that's what you're happier with. The other guys have given you great advice as to products.
