    Default first shavette shave

    Hi,
    Can anyone help.

Been using a straight for about 5 years on and off, past 2 constantly.
Get close and comfortable shaves and very happy.
Used shavette for first time yesterday and to say I was impressed is an understatement. The damn thing was also real cheap.
I was impressed by how easy the chin hair came off.
My question is " should a straight give at least as good a shave as a shavette or surpass it on comfort and closeness?"
Currently using a TI 7/8th carbon with Mitchells woolfat soap with hot towels and shaving oil (these are constants).
Need some feedback cos I like to calibrate these things.
    Any advise welcome

    Many thanks
    Joey

I started out with a shavette, used it daily for nearly a month. I would say a straight shoud give as good a shave, but it's not really that simple IMO. I would say a DE blade is sharper from the off, but it also much more inflexible and therfore debateable harsher to your skin. Realistically, I can get just as close of a shave with the 'real' straight, but with a semi-XTG pass on my chin and upper lip - before the XTG.

Personally, I wouldn't want to use a shavette day in-day out, but they can sure as hell cut hair.

Hi, When I first started I used my Dovo Shavvette allot. Now that I'v learned to keep my razors sharp with good stropping & using a pasted strop when needed. I get a a very close shave, even better then the shavette. I put my shavette away & have never looked back.

I started with the shavette and never regretted it for a moment..

I now use it every now and then and still get great shaves with it..the shaves are just as comfortable but I have to really concentrate and use the lightest touch possible.

I think feather blades are sharper than most of my straights... but my straights are not that harsh..

Anyway I'll take my Shavette on my vacations and camping trips.. and use it if all my razors are not shave ready anymore (not going to happen I'm afraid)

    Thanks guys, some good feedback.

Know what you mean about the blade flexibility.

Although I use 5 straights in rotation and they are always shave ready, it's nice to have the shavette as backup or travel.

It's certainly a different but enjoyable shaving experience.
