Thread: Initial Straight Weekend

Well, I received my newly honed (and cleaned up) razor (A.Feist & Co. Lunawerk 5/8) from Lynn Abrams this week and I could hardly wait until the weekend to try it out. I figured I need to take my time and not feel the pressure of a workday schedule to give it a good go.

I used Erasmic sc yesterday and Tabac ss today; I decided to work on the sideburn/cheek area and learn how to use my left hand on my left side. I did not strop yesterday, but I did about 30 laps today...and yes, it's not as easy as it looks. ( I worry about ruining the good edge Lynn put on the blade.)

When I shaved, on both days I had some difficulty with the razor getting "stuck" but I adjusted the angle and continued. I mangaged both days to do a fair WTG pass with today a slight foray below the right jawline as well. I finished both days with a DE but feel good that I didn't totally botch the procedure. I know I'll keep going on the weekends, but I am looking forward to a two week vacation when I can focus on a daily straight shave to really get a good feel for it.

Congrats on the first shaves,and welcome to the forum.Sounds like you're on the right track,just take it slow and easy and do a little more each time until you can do a whole with the grain shave.It's fun and exciting at the same time,but not without it's pitfalls.You're bound to get some nicks along the way,but that's part of the process.Good Luck.

Thanks for sharing, and it sounds like you're off to a good start. You have the right idea about shaving at a convenient time - weekends, days off, etc - this is the best way to learn as a newb. No sense in rushing. Personally I prefer to straight shave in the evenings and morning/afternoons on weekends.
