Most soaps will hold a bit of water, especially those based in propylene glycol or glycerin, but it varies based on the humidity of the room. When this water is lost, the cake will shrink, sometimes coming out of its container.
I 'glued' my cake to the bottom of my mug with a bit of lather, and this has held it, but to keep it from shrinking away from the sides I only let it dry until the surface is no longer slimy or soft, then cover the mug with a piece of clear saran wrap.

    Hope this helps.

if it is a glycerin based soap it will absorb water. pure glyecrin left open will absorb about %20 of its weight in water. i let my col conk in my mug with no problems. my mamabears came in a tub so i always put the lid on when i am done so i dont know how it would react as it is a high glycerin soap.but i think it would become soft from absorbing the water.

for around $2.50 you can get a clear sugar bowl from Walmart that has a lid with it. You can melt your soap very slowly in the mcrowave then let it harden in the glass sugar bowl, But make sure you stir it a few times before it hardens to keep everything from settling in the bottom. They work great and keeps almost all of the moisture in the soap. Matter of fact, I have to keep the lid ****ed open until the heat from shaving disipates. If not, moisture collects on the lid. Don't know if this will help you or not. Hope it does! Take care and God Bless!

I use the same sugar bowls from walmart-Anchor Hocking- I use a double boiler method to melt my soap into the bowl. it doesn't take much heat or time. Classy little bowls actually, look great on the shelf.
