Default First Shave with my Straight

Got my straight back from GSSIXGUN today. So, I hop in a nice hot shower and then whip up a lather and shave. I know, for a first shave, just from the sideburns to the jawline. Well, I couldn't stop there. So, I did WTG, ATG, and XTG all on my first shave. I think I needed a bit steeper angle on the blade, but, overall, it shaved as good as my double edge Gillette. Not quite BBS, but not far off. And, only 2 small nicks. Both had stopped weeping by the time I finished the ATG pass.

Used the Torrey that I had Glen hone with some of Colleen's Desert Ironwood cream and a little unscented glycerin soap for an uberlather.

Thanks to all that helped give me the confidence to attempt this and to Glen for his skill at honing these things. Now, I just need a hone for myself.

Incremental shaving as I call it, should serve only as a guideline. If you can develop confidence that quickly, you should NOT! stop; that would be wasteful. One should follow his instincts and inspiration in every task, at least that is the way I approach life myself. I have also been burned more than a few times using my philosophy ;-). I am glad that your instincts and decision making were right on. Try following the same instinct with the honing. Congrats!!!

Congrats on the first str8 shave. Glen is such a bad influence - he hones your str8 and you just can't stop shaving!

It just gets better and better.

Yes, Glen does a great job honing. Now, I just need to get myself a set and learn the skill. Have a Double Arrow to practice with. Would hate to ruin my Torrey.

I figured that I have sharpened enough knives in my lifetime to know how to handle a sharp blade that I might as well attempt a full shave the first time. I think the hardest part to get real close was my cheeks. Don't know why, they are the flattest part of my face. I just understood how to follow the curve around my jawline and my neckline better. I will get it eventually. But, I don't plan on putting the straight away yet. That was the best shave I have had, and it wasn't as close as the Scmuck3 used to get. Can't wait until it gets BBS every time.

Congratulations! I couldn't stop on my first either! It sounds like a great start & went well. Managing to get that close on your first shave is great! For many it is worth starting out slow, as it does take time to feel comfortable holding the razor. You're less likely to nick yourself if you allow time to become accustomed to using the blade, but if you can live with a few cuts it's fine!

Great to hear Revs!!!! I was kinda surprised that you just "went" for the whole shave, but really, if yer gonna do this, ya gotta learn sooner or later, and if it started well, why not.... Congrats !!!

YIPEEEE, you did fine. Makes it a bit hard for those of us that have not had the success that you have in just ONE shave. Wait! I hear my lather calling, got go shave.

    Good Job.
