    Default Hello & Intro

    Hi Everybody!

On the advice of someone on another shaving related forum, I decided to join up here. I've been doing the "proper" wetshaving since about August '08 using mug, brush, etc... and DE & SE razors.

I've always been intrigued with the straights, but hadn't planned on getting started until around June of this year (my BD ). Well, I've become bitten by the bug early ever since I've started antiquing for shaving related items and have come across several straights I thought worthy of taking pictures of and asking opinions of at the other site.

So, now I'm gonna bug you all with the pictures of my recent outings, and ask your opinions on some razors I've come across, with plans to get something sooner rather than later. I do realize and plan to send whatever I get to a honemeister for a proper tune up.

    -Matt

Welcome to SRP Matt! It sounds like you are one that does his homework, so you probably know the bare essential straight razor shaving supplies. Read as much as you can, and keep the pictures and posts coming. You will find all the help you need here. I would recommend getting Lynn's DVD, over
3 1/2 hours of very useful info - one of the best investments you could make.

Hi Matt, welcome to SRP. Love to see the photos of your antique shop finds. Check out the Wiki in the toolbar above if you haven't already and the videos section here. You will have a head start like I did having gotten the prep and the multiple pass technique down before you start straight razor shaving. Here is another good thing to read to start.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

    Welcome Truckman..

Now that you will be entering the straight path pretty soon it is good to ask some directions..
Well you just go straight ahead, find a straight.. get it it honed, do a lot of beardprep, take a deep breath... and then shave a little... do the rest with the DE and live to shave another day..
when you get to that point please ask directions again...there are a lot of people here that know the way..

Welcome to the forum! We will be needing photo's at some point soon though! You've got the headstart with DE shaving. Give your skin time to acclimatise to a straight & once it has you'll be amazed at how gentle a shave they can give. Of course from time to time they can be less gentle, but that helps with the learning process!
