Default Came across a great deal today.

Since I've had my straight for a few weeks I went by the old Royal Barber Shop today to see if I had been stropping right. A couple of the barbers there are over 70 years old and really know their straights. They took a look at my Dovo and said it was just fine, and also gave me a few little tips on the use and care of it. I asked if there was anyplace in town where I could get a hone and they didn't know of one. Then Billy said "Since all we use now are the injector ones, here, stick this in your pocket and take it with you" as he handed me a Carborundum 159 sharpening stone, ex. hard ex. fine, still in the old original box. A hand written price on the box was $3.00.

Can't complain about a freebie like that.

It pays to make friends with the older guys, they are proud to see others taking an interest and just as proud to pass on a few pointers and my barber gave me a strop and a handful of razors as well as his old hone, a Keen Kutter Kombo! Yes it pays to make friends with the older guys.

Was wondering if this stone is more aggressive than the Norton 4k/8k. I'm sure since I got it from a barber it would put the edge on pretty quick. Probably not something a newbie should be playing with on a good razor.

Anyone have a guess at what grit it might be?
