    Default For Great Victory!

Well, i jsut finished my first full, 3 pass straight shave!

It's not exactly BBS, and it's not exactly irritation free, but compared to the first two "one-passes" I tried, it's a HUGE improvement! I nicked myself a couple of times--I got a really good one just under my nostril...how the heck are you supposed to shave there??!!!?--but nothing dreadful. Didn't even need a styptic.

I have a touch of razor burn on my upper lip, but again, nothing like before. Yay!

I put this success to two things: the advice you guys gave me on adjusting my angle, and stropping improvements. I have been practicing my stropping, and am getting just a touch faster. And tonight, stropping my Kropp before the shave, I finally got that feeling of "draw" that people talk about. The blade felt sticky...and I thought "Hmmmm....This seems promising."

Thanks for your help, and thanks for the advice, and thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

    Jim

    Well done mate!
You get a great sense af achievement with these little milestones.
The upper lip can be awkward. i think it's down to a light touch with more passes if needed. I've been trying out smaller blades recently & find that the less agressive angle required gives a very comfortable shave there.
Did you go ATG under the nose, cos that's gonna hurt?!

Oh, no way! Momma didn't raise no fool....well, except for my brother.
Nope, WTG and XTG only--I didn't try any ATG yet. Leave that for another day entirely.

    Sounds good JimR..

The upperlip is a bit difficult I just start with a WTG as with an angle that doesnt do too much damage.. then i do an XTG to finish it up and I might do some touchup without lather if I've forgotten a small bit under my (big) nose..

Congrats - sounds like you're coming a long way! It just takes time and trial and error - for the moustache area, I use a very light touch and a bit of a sweeping motion - but mostly, I've gone to just doing xtg strokes for that area...eliminates the awkwardness...oh, and don't be afraid to pull on your lip to stretch - this helped a lot at the beginning until I found out how to stretch my upper lip with no hand and keep it relatively flat.

Yes that pretty much explains the "coup de maitre".
It's explained here http://www.en.nassrasur.com/razorcentral/coup.html , but the video is better IMO.

For some strange reason I find that move incredibly easy despite having a large nose, I don't know why. A sharp blade and good prep obviously helps a lot.

When going XTG on the top lip I find that moving diagonally with a slight downward movement makes it much smoother.
