    Default Good Morning!

Eek! Thought I'd update you on developments. I've been straight-blade shaving regularly now since the New Year and have really enjoyed the experience. I have been shaving in the evening, just for the opportunity of relaxation and a little 'treat' at the end of a busy day. I particularly relish the ritual preparation, of the blade, the soap, the face and then the experience of putting this all to effect with the resultant close shave. Mmmm.

However, I have 'graduated' now to shaving in the morning, before work. So my shave today was just at the turn of a dawn sky (still dark in the bathroom) but the ritual was the same - shower, hot towel, same mix, same stropping, same technique, different shave .

For the first time in many days I have had to reach for the styptic. Just a couple of nicks, but what a dent to my pride! I wonder why? Maybe just complacency, though not knowingly rushed. Part of the enjoyment tempered with the anticipation of a workday ahead? Who knows...

Anyway, I can live with it. The upside is that, while preparing some coffee in our small kitchen area, a young lady hesitated before remarking "You smell nice....". Maybe I just smelled bad before - but I like to think the shaving has something to do with it!

Is it too indulgent to shave twice a day?!!

Yeah,it's probably subconsciously looking forward to the day ahead, and rushing without meaning to.A little nick isn't too bad to go to work with as it happens to non-straight users also. What would be worse is getting a 3-incher from a straight. That's hard to explain. As far as two shaves a day, that depends on your whisker growth and how your face reacts to it.

Take my advice, do want you want. If you enjoy shaving in the evening as well as the morning, go for it. As you've already discovered your morning routine will have to be adjusted (read that as getting up and about a little earlier) to accomodate a straight razor shave. I suspect the change in your routine is the likely culprit. Don't worry about it, you'll adjust...

When to shave is up to you. I shave in the evening most often. In the morning your face will be a bit puffy from sleeping on it and your mental state will be less alert effecting your coordination.

I love the ritual too. The lathering is one of my favorite things along with the AS splash and waving the towel to create a breeze over my face afterwards. I haven't had a young lady waiting in the kitchen for me in a long time. If I did that might lead to my getting in a hurry and maybe a nick as well.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

Congratulations on your progress. Maybe the morning shave is different due to the astrological events associated with mornings? I shave in the am before work but have to wait about an hour after I wake and shower, otherwise I'm just not completely awake. Only reason I would argue against 2x a day shaving would be excessive exfoliation of the skin. If your technique is really good tho that may not be a factor.
