    Default How many razors?

I'm new to straight razor shaving. Progress is slow but getting slightly easier to do. It seems most folk have more than one straight razor. Aesthetics aside ,is there any real need for more than one razor? Is there any advantage in having a couple or is it better to stick to one and become used to it?

If you have more than one, you can continue shaving with one while you are getting the other one honed up again. If you are maintaining your own razor, then you can get by just fine with just one razor, one strop, and one barber hone.

    Two is the optimum number.

One to use and one as a backup.

Mind you on this forum the temptation to buy many razors is difficult to resist.

Thankfully I haven't caught RAD yet.
I only have my original Dovo En Vogue that I honed myself.
And a Wapienica that I bought "shave-ready" to compare my honing to that of an experienced person.
And two of those cheap Double Arrows off ebay to experiment with.
There is a nice vintage Henckels I have my eye on but I've resisted so far.

Yes, I'm sure glad I don't have RAD.

You only need one str8. It's good to have a backup, so 2 str8s are nice. The trouble is that str8s are like tribbles, they multiply. I have 7 now and can't explain how that happened .

    Enjoy!

as i understand someone posted that the blade needs 48 hour reset period because of the metal or something, im not not sure but you cant use the same razor everyday because of thats and thats why they used to sell 7 day sets.... i may have misunderstood.

I think letting the blade rest is a myth. I've been shaving every day with my Dovo for the last week or so without a problem. Of course, that's just between us. If my wife asks, a str8 needs to rest a week, minimum.

    Yes, I agree.
Everyone turn in all your extra razors to the Principal immediately.

They sold 7 day sets because a well heeled gentleman of means would buy that. Kind of like wearing a Rolex in these times. Also agreed that letting a razor rest is just a myth.

I think the "resting the blade" was invented by someone who wanted us to buy more razors which you will eventually do, if you like it. I think, at least two razors at minimum...
