    Default First Shave!

So I had decided I wanted to start the new year with a straight shave, and that's exactly what I did. My uber-lather was great (glycerin, Proraso and C&E Sandalwood soap), and was nice and moist the entire shave. I got out of the shower, and started the shave. I must admit that I was trying to shave off a fair amount of growth (about 6 days worth), and that probably didn't help matters. Nonetheless, I was ready with my Invisible Edge supplied Wapi.

With my wife anxiously watching, I lathered up and put blade to face. Now, being that I'm right-handed, I started with the right side of my face. First pass, the scritching noises made the wife cringe, but the blade stayed strong, plowing through my forest of facial hair. Pulled the might blade away, gave her a rinse (the blade, not the wife), a quick wipe, and went back for more. All-in-all, no cuts, and an okay shave, so I've awarded this 1 for the blade, 0 for technique.

What I've found is that when I switched to my left, things went along much easier - no razor burn on the left side of my face or neck - I assume this means I am applying far too much pressure with my right hand. I'm tempted to pick up another shave-ready razor (maybe an L&D?) just to compare the blades, as I'm not entirely sure if my razor is sharp enough (didn't pass the HHT, and yes I know that's not the end-all and be-all, but it's the only measure I have given my poor newbie technique).

Either way, I'll report back in two days to advise on how things are coming along!

Congrats ! I bet if you keep this up the wife will be so happy with your bbs face compared to the previous growth that she will let you buy all the razors you want. Kidding aside, I too am a right handed shaver and I also noticed that the left side seemed to be easier to shave. I decided it is blade angle in my case. I just naturally hold the blade at a better angle on the left side.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
