Default I just got the best shave of my life... with a Mach3!

I just wanted to let everyone know that while I am learning to straight razor shave, I decided tonight to shave with my Mach3 because of time (and length of beard).

I followed all the steps I learned here:

    - I gave myself a warm towel treatment
    - I used a shaving soap and gave myself a good lather that I let sit on my face for a moment before shaving.
    - I pulled and stretched my skin
    - I followed WTG for the first pass, cleaned up with another hot towel and...
    - I gave myself a second pass XTG (with lather) and then...
    - I followed up with ATG touch ups (and more lather of course)
    - Then another hot towel followed by a cold towel.

Results... Truly Baby Butt Smooth Skin!

No, this won't pull me from my desire to learn to shave with the straight, but it shows me that with these new skills I WILL be able to produce a perfect shave with the straight when I finally get it down. (I'm 5 attempts in, with poor shaving results... as expected, but my technique is definitely getting better each time.)

Throw the Crap3 away and your straight skills will improve even faster!

Nah... what you really need is right in my avatar. The Platinum Mach 14. The 13th and 14th blade work in conjunction to give you a subdermal shave, completely removing the hair follicle, thus reducing the need to ever shave again.

Just be careful on the alcohol based aftershave for a bit afterwards... it really burns.

trust me that was not the best shave of your life, you may have gotten a bbs shave with it but you dont have the feeling of accomplishment and pride that only comes with a straight

I dont think anybody ever said that a Mach 3 doesnt remove facial hair well (if you clean the hairs stuck between the blades every 2 inches of shaving under a running tap, using up precious water). Else, I doubt they'd sell millions of them worldwide.

Let us know how many hairs will actually grow OUT of your skin as opposed to growing underneath and cause bumps.

Different strokes for different folks. I shaved with a Mach 3 for years and never experienced any of the evil effects that other have found. I do prefer the straight for a number of reasons but they are not related to the inability of the Mach 3 to shave or any adverse effects produced or induced by its use. I am sure that as your technique improves, you would find the straights rewarding and exciting as well.

I could drive my honda civic where I need to go, but I'd rather drive a '52 Chevy PU.

sounds to me like you have a good approach going there, just take your time. I am sure you will move away from the cartridge but if you are pressed for time it is a better idea to use that and get a good shave than try to hurry with a straight and have an accident. Just keep pluggin away and we can rest assured that you will be one of us soon.
