Try out Castle Forbes shaving cream. That beats every other cream or soap I've ever tried 10 out of 10!

    Good luck!

My favourities for my course beard are
    Soaps: 1.. Dr Harris 2. T&H luxury
    Creams: 1. Trumpers 2. TOBS

I usually use conditioner during shower to soften the whiskers. It doesn't bring a dramatically change but helps a little.
If I want to do extra long shot here's my routine
1.. skin food with massage ( lift up the whiskers )
    2. hot towel 1
    3. skin food 2
    4. hot towel 2
    5. lather up and wtg
    6. lather up and xtg/atg
    7. warm water rinse
    8. cold water rinse
    9. aftershave splash
    10. moisturising cream ( works better than balms for me)
    11. cologne
