• Wet/dry paper around 220-400 grit, or higher, on anything flat (like plate glass or a marble/granite tile).
• DMT D8C diamond plate used wet. It comes flat and works good. This can also work on your knives and other tools. A good investment for long term purposes.

How long a good shaving edge lasts, depends on many factors, but one of them is shaving technique, and another is stropping technique.
Because it will take you some time to perfect both those factors, your razor's "up-time" will improve together with your skills. Beard type is another contributing factor. You can't change that, but you can take care of very good beard preparation. That too influences the longevity of the edge, and it sure helps to get a good shave.

It sounds to me you're heading for a good start!

Depends on a few things. How often you use it and your beard. You will develop a feel of how your edge is performing. When stropping or paste stropping no longer works for maintaining your edge, it's time to hone. That comes with experience...
