    Default Strops and other advice

    Hi Guys,
First post so go gently with me. I've been bought a Dovo Stainless steel 5/8" blade I've been attempting to shave with a hairdressers cut throat that takes disposable blades and after I blunted the edges I stopped cutting myself with it. I have this dovo blade now and need sharpening tips I don't yet own a proper strop, but do have a piece of leather glued to a bit of wood loaded with autosol for stropping chisels and plane blades, and did use this before my first shave is this suitable really, and would I notice any difference with a more conventional strop?

Also any hints of how to do under my nose/ top lip would be appreciated I either don't get a close enough and swap back to my gilette mach 3 or end up just leaving it. Also is standard shaving foam applied sparingly suitable?

Thanks I'm sure I'll have more questions

    John

Hi John, welcome to SRP ! Here is something to look at that will get you on the right road. Here are some videos on shaving , stropping, and honing.
